Danger Danger!

We're in the DANGER ZONE people. It's pay day tomorrow and I just found the Motel Indah Dress in Peach Wallflower online (styled in two different ways - which do you prefer?)...to buy or not to buy?

The fabric is calling my name, I'm not sure The Boy will be a fan but I don't really mind if he isn't because I love it!

This winter I have had a real struggle trying to find dresses with sleeves so the Indah seems to be the answer to my wishes but it is hard to tell if it will be flattering without trying it on (the one annoying thing about online shopping) and if the material will be nice in real life. My one complaint about Motel is that sometimes their fabric looks great in the pictures but is awful and cheap looking in real life. On second glance the dress does look scarily short but as I'd be wearing it with black tights this doesn't bother me too much.

Hmm decisions decisions! Advise away lovely readers - do you love it too, or do you think it looks like someone vomited flowers all over a dress??

A-dressing a dilemma - Part 2

From Blondie's love of leather pants to the platform shoes of the Spice Girls, you can’t deny that fashion and music go hand in hand.

In recent years, the enduring and constantly evolving romance between the two has given us sparkly leotards (thanks Karen O), latex dresses (no thanks Katy Perry) and of course the ubiquitous skinny jean/leather jacket combo of indie bands everywhere.

I think it's pretty obvious when I say that in this partnership, boundaries don't exist. The lovechild of self expression means you can flirt with pretty much whatever style you want and it's this that makes dressing for gigs and festivals especially fun...as long as you don't go overboard.

Personally, I think that expensive frocks, heels of any kind and that 'fashionable' feathered headdress are best avoided as they will get trashed and look ridiculous on a muddy field/in a sweaty bar.

So what do you wear to a gig, that is both fashion forward and comfortable?

I need a quick answer to this question if I'm going to kill it at The Drums tomorrow night! I've tried turning to my favourite It girls but as I haven't been blessed with their twiggy arms and endless legs I find 'channeling' their look rather difficult at time. The Asos' 2011 Festival shop which has recently launched for the northern Summer, is brimming with micro denim shorts, baggy singlets and fedoras, outfits well known to the indie hipster...but again not really my most flattering friends. So what to wear?

I think I'm going to go with black. I know, not exactly original - but rest-assured there will be leopard print and red involved too. I can see you rolling your eyes again...'but it's just so "done"' you say. Well I don't care! It will still be fabulous like!

The wolf ring is the only thing I've decided on. I'm torn between three options that inspired/are inspired by (you can do both people) the below picture board:

1. My leopard print Motel dress, gladiators and jacket/cardigan.
2. My grey-spotted Motel dress with ballet flats/brown boots plus cardigan
3. My adored Motel 'Patty' dress (are we seeing a pattern here?) OR
4. Skinny jeans, t-shirt, leather jacket.

So what will it be?? Any new ideas for me? Am I a walking, talking cliche wearing any of these?? HELP!

SOS please someone help me

It’s not healthy for me to feel this way…about a dress.

It’s been a couple of months since I bought my Motel ‘Garden' print Patty dress which I'm wearing in this post. Normally after owning something for a while I find that it starts to lose a little bit of its allure, but not the Patty. Nope. I am still completely obsessed with this dress and can’t stop raving about the perfect fit and versatility it beholds. 

I have worn it to many different occasions from work to weekends and have never felt under or overdressed. This is certainly the best dress I've bought in a long while. I feel instantly great when I put it on and with winter quickly approaching I thought it might be nice to investigate the possibility of buying the Patty in other fabrics. 

Unfortunately, ‘Operation Pocket a Patty’ hasn’t exactly worked out as I had hoped.

After discovering the dress in ‘Another Rose’ (see pictured) I have spent literally hours scrolling through online shopping websites trying to hunt it down in my size. Alas, it appears that only extra smalls are still around because the print is from last year. BOO! Why am I constantly behind the trends? First Zumba now this...

I can feel myself spiraling into a deep depression as my Ebay search results are equally fruitless. I am even considering the slightly (not really) more available black polka dot version but it just won't do. I’m almost ready to give up and consult my mum on how to make a pattern from the dress but before I do - can anyone help?

A little wine on the weekend

Kafka, existentialism, the situation in Libya…not the exact topics I covered with my friends S and G at our Saturday afternoon drinks but still very important none the less. Our conversation revolved more around our failing shopping bans, nail polish, how delicious blue cheese is and why on earth none of us had bought any, and which Disney Prince is the hottest (Eric from the Little Mermaid wins hands down in case you’re wondering). What do you think?

Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Aladdin accompanied us for our afternoon of white wine and camembert and I have to say that I think we all had a lovely, happy afternoon/evening.  

This was our amazing spread (not including chocolates and my failed macarons). Impressive no?

Today was also a food filled day starting with breakfast with 4 of my girlfriends at Mondo Organics. I had the Spelt, pumpkin and pepita pancakes with cinnamon ricotta and maple syrup and a Green Fix juice (apple, celery and ginger). It was all amazing but I couldn’t get through half of it!

I wore this Motel dress with a vintage Bally belt that used to be my mums.

And I have Ulta3 ‘Pacific Fever’ nail polish on which is an eye-popping turqouise green. What do you think? My friends H and S also had lovely painted nails so G took a photo for us. [NB: S was advocating the use of willyweather instead of the frequently incorrect iPhone weather app hence its appearance].

I am still obsessed with my heeled brogues and can't wait for winter to come to wear them more. Aren't they just beautiful? I don't think the picture really does them justice.

Other weekend things?

I had a sexy date with my friend Char on Friday night. We ate sushi and watched this gorgeous man in this super depressing but beautifully made film. I also visited my Grandad in hospital and am please to say that he is doing really well considering the circumstances and that he loves a structurally unsound macaron.

Golden times & good friends

In the spirit of keeping my mind from wandering to a sad place, I have spent the morning drinking tea and reading and am now feverishly punching at the keyboard to write this post.

As you know, this past Sunday I had some unfortunate news but prior to this my weekend was actually rather fabulous. So here's a quick recap of some time spent with my wonderful girls L and M.

On Friday night, L (who has just returned home after living overseas for 4 years!) met me at work and we made the traffic filled trip down to the Gold Coast. I dropped her off with an old friends and continued my drive to pick up M from Coolangatta Airport. After eventually negotiating our way into our unit at Broadbeach we headed out for a lovely Italian dinner which we followed with a bottle of wine on our ocean view balcony eventually stumbling into bed in the early hours..

Saturday started with brunch at Broadbeach and then shopping pretty much all day at Pacific Fair. I can honestly say i was completely surprised with the shopping at the Coast. There were so many bargains!! Me bought 2 dresses, a necklace and i think some other stuff but I can't be sure...I may or may not have broken my shopping ban to buy a jacket from Chicabooti.

I know. Terrible aren't I. Although in my defense it will actually save me from buying a much more expensive jacket in the coming months which I was planning on doing anyway so really I am actively saving money by purchasing it right?...Right?

This is not the jacket I bought. More to be used as evidence that I look awful/9 months pregnant in overly fluffy leopard print jackets and should therefore not buy one!

Anyway. After shopping we napped until L came over and we got LOOSE. Lots of vodka was consumed and way too much information was shared. Gotta love awesome girlfriends.

Drunk already

This is one of a series of '10 shots in 30 seconds' we decided to take. They are all hilarious and prove just how drunk we were. I've put it up mainly so you can see my Motel dress and the one M bought (FOR $40 DOLLARS) on my advice a few hours earlier.

Taken towards the end of the night...

Then we hit Onyx and East and danced our butts off. My neck and shoulders are still sore from tossing my hair around like the dance whore that I am. Overall, it was a super fun-filled couple of nights and on waking to the news that I needed to gohome and say goodbye to my grandma both L and M were amazingly supportive. I honestly love these girls and feel so lucky to have friends like them :-)

Can you be in love with a dress?

Last night I did a little online shopping at my old favourite ASOS and bought the dress that will hopefully serve as the centre of my party outfit on New Year's Eve...that is unless I fall in love with another one in the post Christmas sales (highly likely). Anyway, I won't keep you waiting long it's the Motel 'Wanda' dress in leopard.

I personally feel that this dress is pretty much my best discovery since finding white chocolate covered Oreos in Greece. Yup it's that good. I plan on wearing it with insanely high black pumps or a pair of cute Primark flats depending on how the evening works out. I'm already looking forward to wow-ing the boy T with it.

And just think of the possibilities after NYE...music festivals with a straw trilby and gladitators, to the office with a blazer, opaques and ballet flats. Really, if you can find a leopard print dress that as adorable and versatile as this I applaud you. Of course you could just go and buy it too. I won't mind. It's only natural to be obsessed with leopard print and to want to look modestly sexy (i.e. not like a tart). And it's such a good price! Really, thanks to its designs, quality and pricepoint Motel is fast becoming one of my favourite brands. I would wear pretty much everything on their website if I could afford it all but I will also freely admit that some of their designs may be a little too short/tight/unsuited for my figure.

Four totally different yet equally lust-worthy pieces you might like...

1. First date perfection. Understated and cute but still a whole lotta sassy.

2. Hot outfit to wear to a festival/gig or simply out with the girls.

3. The perfect outfit for when you know you're going to see that ass called you're ex-boyfriend.

4. Relaxed and polished for a weekend full of pretty much anything: brunches, BBQs, shopping, drinks at your local, seeing a movie with friends - anything!
